Michael Hakim holds a B.M. in cello performance from the Manhattan School of Music, having studied with David Geber and Julia Lichten, and an M.M. in composition from Boston University, having studied with Martin Amlin and Lukas Foss. Originally from New Jersey, he has lived in Vermont since 2003, teaching privately, and at a variety of schools and music programs. He is currently the orchestra director at Edmunds and Hunt Middle Schools in Burlington. He performs with many of Vermont’s ensembles, and is the recipient of commissions from the Vermont Music Teachers Association and the Sage City Symphony. He lives in Shelburne with his wife Katherine and their daughter Lucy.
