Meet Our Talented Musicians

Sofia Hirsch

Sofia was inspired by her mother, also a violinist, and began violin studies at 4. She loved playing in the VYO ('84-'88) and playing chamber music with friends. Her VYO string quartet competed nationally in '87. She completed a music minor at UVM while pursuing other interests, then continued pursuing other interests in Colorado for 5 years, returning to Vermont in '97. Encouraged by family and friends, she joined the Vermont Symphony Orchestra in'02. Sofia teaches as part of Pam Reit's Vermont Suzuki Violins, as well as privately in Middlebury. She loves her family, husband Andrew and daughter Eva, and parents Clarke and Harriette Hermance of Shelburne. Sofia is also a co founder with Mike Dabroski of the new chamber group Burlington Ensemble, also known as "be." Sofia currently enjoys exploring other mediums of performance, like playing Graziella in Lyric's production of West Side Story (Nov.'07) and Sheila in the Lyric's production of A Chorus Line (Nov. '08).
