Kathleen Kono

Kathleen Kono has been a music educator and professional violin/violist since 1996. Kathleen grew up in Atlanta Georgia and attended Vanderbilt University's Blair School of Music where she received her Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance and then attended The University of Texas at Austin graduating with a Masters of Music degree in Violin Performance and Pedagogy and also served as the Coordinator and Teacher for The University of Texas at Austin String Project. She has been the Director of Orchestras at Deerpark Middle School in Round Rock, Texas, Hamlin Middle School and Ray High School in Corpus Christi, Texas, Orchestra Director at CVU in Hinesburg, Vermont and currently Violin Instructor for the Integrated Arts Academy in Burlington Vermont. She also conducts the Presto I and Presto II Orchestras at the Vermont Youth Orchestra Association, conducts the Children’s Choirs at First Congregational Church of Burlington, teaches String Techniques at the University of Vermont and holds a private violin and viola student with 25 students.

Besides teaching, Kathleen has served as the Principal 2nd Violinist of the Kingsville Symphony Orchestra and was also the 2nd violinist of the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islander Faculty String Quartet. In Vermont, Kathleen performs with the Burlington Chamber Orchestra where she served on the Musician’s Committee in 2013-2015. She also is an active parent in the Vermont Suzuki Violin Program where her daughter Marisa and Nadia plays violin. Kathleen enjoys spending time with her beautiful family, daughters Marisa and Nadia and her husband Yutaka, Artist Director of the Burlington Chamber Orchestra and Orchestra Director at the University of Vermont.
