2013 Young Artist Solo Competition Winner

The winner of the 2013 Young Artist Solo competition was 15 year-old pianist David Horak of Norwich, Vermont.

David Horak is a home-schooled student from Norwich, Vermont. Born into a musical family, he has been immersed in music his entire life. Since the age of 5, David has studied music with Victoria Dobrushina, including piano, recorder, ensembles, and music theory. As a violinist, David is a member of the Vermont Youth Orchestra and an alumnus of the Vermont Suzuki Violins. He has attended many Suzuki workshops and summer institutes, including the Green Mountain Suzuki Institute (Rochester, VT) and the Ithaca College Suzuki Institute.

An active performer, David regularly plays as a violinist and pianist on Victoria Dobrushina’s annual Gala Recital, the Young Musician’s Recital Series (Hanover, NH), at senior residences, and at weddings. As a recorder player, David performed in Weston Opera Theatre’s 2013 production of Benjamin Britten’s Noye’s Fludde.

Mr. Horak was the featured soloist with the Burlington Chamber Orchestra on May 18, 2013. He played J.S. Bach's Concerto in F minor. The performance took place in the McCarthy Arts Center's Recital Hall at St. Michael's College in Colchester.
