2012 Young Artist Solo Competition Winner

The winner of the 2012 Young Artist Solo competition was 15 year-old cellist Matthew Goff of Plattsburgh, New York.

Matthew began his cello studies at age four and is currently a student of BCO principal cellist John Dunlop. The second of four musical brothers, he has performed extensively with his siblings, including a recent series of mini-concerts presented at nursing homes and assisted living facilities (www.goffbrothers.org). Now in his third season as a member of the Vermont Youth Orchestra, Matthew traveled with the group to Germany and the Czech Republic and currently shares the position of principal cellist.

Matthew performed Haydn's exuberant Cello Concerto in C Major with the orchestra on Saturday, March 24, 2012 under the direction of guest conductor Jeffrey Domoto. The performance took place in the McCarthy Arts Center's Recital Hall at St. Michael's College in Colchester.
