Dan Rome

Emily Wiggett, flute

2009 Young Artist Solo Competition Winner

Dan Rome was a musician long before he even picked up a saxophone, as he began playing piano at age six. Dan's interest in the alto saxophone began innocently in the fifth grade and has grown exponentially since. He has been a student of Steven Klimowski since age twelve, and in addition to being a four year member of Essex High School's award winning Jazz ensemble and Honors Band, he has been a member of the Vermont District III band and Vermont All-State band all four years of high school, as well as the New England Music Festival band. Dan is a student of his craft, and he uses his extensive knowledge of his instrument and all those who have played it, from jazz to classical, to improve his own tone and character. Dan plans on attending Brown University, where he will continue his music education and explore other academic fields. While not playing the sax, Dan enjoys skiing, perfecting his useless talents (juggling while reciting the alphabet backwards, etc), and spending time with his family and friends.

Dan performed the Glazunov Saxophone Concerto with the BCO on our performances May 29, 2009 at the Town Hall Theater in Middlebury, VT, and on May 30, 2009 at the UVM Music Building Recital Hall.
